Weekend with Papa

Last weekend my dad had some business in Austin. And since Austin is only a few hours away from us, he couldn't resist the opportunity to stop by. Boy were we happy that he dropped in for a visit. He was with us for less than 48 hours, but we made the most of our visit! The girls were so excited on Friday afternoon to wake up from their naps and find their Papa Michaelson ready to play with him. Audrey and Rachel kept pretty good score the whole weekend. If one was being held, the other had to be held. Thank heavens for 2 arms and 2 legs! The girls enjoyed some story time with their papa on Friday afternoon:
For dinner we went to Chuck E. Cheese's, which has kind of become a tradition with the Michaelson grandparents. Rachel pretty much expects it whenever they are around... Audrey was quite content playing in the Tot Spot while Rachel enjoyed using up the tokens.
The one time I did use a token for Audrey, it didn't go over well. Maybe she isn't quite ready for Disneyland...
Luckily Big Sister took over:
Both of the girls enjoyed playing various games with Papa:
I think the most fascinating thing of the evening though was the ticket counter. After all their hard work the girls each got a sucker and a teeny plastic bug. And they were all smiles! :)
Saturday we decided to go to the Children's Museum. We became members, so it's definitely something we will make a habit of. It was a bit crowded and I'm hoping that was because it was a Saturday. But we enjoyed ourselves and so did the girls. As long as we go 2 more times in the next year, we'll be even. Rachel's already asking to go back. Maybe next week.... We definitely enjoyed several hours of exploring, but there will be more to explore when we got back. Playing and building away:
The girls favorite spot by far was the outdoor water play area. They loved it out there! Audrey was soaked to the bone. Luckily we headed home shortly after that and had a spare outfit for her. Rachel just got a little bit wet, since she's a bit more cautious.
We finished off Saturday by running a few errands. It's always nice for small-town folk to have access to big-town stores... The girls insisted on Papa carrying both of them in and out of any store we went to. I think we may have worn him out! Especially since Andy and I stayed up talking with my dad until 1 AM that night. But it was a good time. Good memories! Here are the girls enjoying the book their grandma sent them on Sunday morning:
Sunday morning Papa had to head back home. Boy was that a sad departure. Both of the girls were in tears. Papa tried to make it better by giving them each a dollar to go buy a treat. So, the next day we headed to the dollar store. :) We definitely enjoyed our weekend! Rachel is more than willing to give up her bed and sleep on the blow-up mattress in Audrey's room. So, visitors, come on down!!!
